NEWTOWN UNITED FC

After their historic and record-equalling season on the pitch in the 2017/8 season, Newtown United swept the boards off it at the 18th Tommy Earls Wicklow League awards.

The Magpies became only the second Garden County club to win four major trophies in a single campaign by lifting the Wicklow Cup, Charlie Bishop Cup, Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy and the Charlie O’Leary Cup.

Players Evan Moran (overall) and Dillon Carthy (young player) took the accolades on Friday the Parkview Hotel, while managers Gary Kelly and Trevor O’Brien along with coaches Dave Moran and John Purdy, claimed the overall manager of the year prize.

Not to be outdone, Newtown player Ryan Cahill secured the John Tobin Youth League manager of the year honours.
