VINTAGE DAY

Probably what was the largest number of people ever seen in Coolgreany assembled in Merrigan’s Field on last Sunday, September 9, for the first ever Vintage Day held in the village.

Things started off on Saturday afternoon when some of the first of vintage vehicles started to arrive, which led into our parade on Saturday of a Steam engine followed by a large number of Tractors which was ably led by local Piper Ray Finn in full vintage attire. Sunday morning about 7 a.m. Coolgreany became alive with all type of vehicles arriving.

The weather was most favourable, and huge crowds assembled for an exciting day of excellent entertainment, with a Carnival, Bouncy Castle and Face painting among other things for the children, while the adults enjoyed viewing the vintage displays, eg: Bread baking, Clothes wringing, Hot Forging, and many other side shows to numerous to mention,

music for the afternoon was provided firstly by Gorey Ukes, then it was the beautiful singing of Stacey Breen with her great variety of country and western singing, followed by some lovely singing from local man Dylan O’Toole. All this was followed by a big raffle with over 20 prizes kindly sponsored.

At the conclusion the chairman Dan Kennedy thanked everyone who supported the Event on the day, thanks to Cllr John Hegarty for opening the event, all the exhibitors of vintage vehicles, stall holders, volunteers and helpers, Stacey Breen, Gorey Ukes and Dylan O’Toole; to our sponsors and all those who gave donations we owe them a special thanks.

The committee owe a very sincere thanks to the Merrigan Family Monareagh for providing the Field which was the ideal venue for the occasion. At the conclusion Dan said that the whole venture was a dream success,

Thanks to all involved and the challenge now is to go one better next year. finally he said we hope to make donations to Aoibheann’s Pink Tie Children’s Cancer Charity, North Wexford Hospice, and the Local Tidy Towns Group from the proceeds.
