ST MARY’S hopes of re­tain­ing their Paddy Sheelan Cup ti­tle were dashed on Sun­day af­ter­noon when they made their exit at the quar­ter-fi­nal stage af­ter Mat­tock Rangers claimed a four-point vic­tory at Ardee.

The hosts en­tered the game as favourites to ad­vance but it was Mat­tock who pro­duced the bet­ter foot­ball on the day and in the end de­servedly booked their place in the last four. Although there was never much between the teams, the Col­lon men al­ways had the edge and ul­ti­mately it was the only goal of game from mid­fielder Brian Cor­co­ran that saw them through.

It was Mat­tock who opened the scor­ing but when the hosts hit back to draw level at two points apiece, it looked as if a tight game was in store. How­ever, the Col­lon men dom­i­nated the re­main­der of
