Hunterstown Rovers O Raghallaigh’s 2-13 0-7

Drogheda Independent - - SPORT -

HUNTERSTOWN Rovers turned in an excellent second-half display as they easily brushed aside the challenge of O Raghallaigh’s in Drogheda on Saturday evening.

The visitors held a three-point lead at the break, but proved too strong in the second half as they eventually won by 12 points.

Two goals from Alan Landy and Ryan Burns inside four minutes during the third quarter proved decisive as Hunterstown got their league campaign off to an impressive start.

Rovers produced some good football in the first half, and with Alan Landy, Brendan Lennon (2), Ryan Burns (2) and Padraig Matthews all finding their range, they went in at the break with a 0-6 to 0-3 advantage.

The Drogheda men were still very much in the game at that stage but faced an uphill task when Landy scored the first goal of the game on 39 minutes.

Within four minutes the game was as good as over as Ryan Burns fired home a second goal from the penalty spot.

The visitors comfortably saw out the remaining 17 minutes to secure victory, with Glen Matthews and Padraig Matthews also adding their names to the scoresheet in the second half.
