Duleek shield hopes ended by Bellurgan
AN under-strength Duleek side travelled to Dundalk on Sunday morning to face Bellurgan in the Kilmessan Shield semi-final and came up short.
Duleek started brightly and played some lovely football in the first 25 minutes, but Bellurgan took the lead following a goalmouth scramble on the half-hour.
Both teams continued to play ball in the right way and as Duleek went searching for an equaliser it was Bellurgan that capitalised on a defensive mistake to double their lead and take the Dundalk team into the final.
Duleek continued to push until the final whistle, with Karl Dyas and Robbie Daly both going close, but three games in a week took its toll on the away team as they bowed out of the competition.
