THERE are growing calls for the iconic image of the Our Lady to be restored to prominence at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

The image has looked across the town of Drogheda for decades from a position on the top of the hospital.

But the new multi-million euro extension to the hospital now means that it is virtually blocked from view.

There have even been calls for the statue to be moved by crane while one is still on site as part of the extension.

Cllr Frank Godfrey says he has received a number of comments about the statue.

‘It should be moved to a position where it can be seen from all angles,’ he stated.

‘ This statue has been like a guardian angel looking down on Drogheda for years,’ he added.

He says works should be done while the extension is being built.
