Last chance to celebrate Bristle at Highlanes Gallery
AFTER a very busy summer with people travelling across the island to see Bristle: Hair and Hegemony, it comes to an end, but not before Highlanes Gallery presents a hirsute evening of demonstrations, music and a lecture.
Culture Night, on Friday 22nd September, will be marked with a free late evening access until 9pm, to the exhibition, which has received critical acclaim and has been very popular, as well as a demonstration by Jennifer Twum in the Upper Gallery on ethnic hairstyles, while ensconced in the café will be traditional musicians, Brendan McCreanor and SJ McArdle.
At 7.30pm, Irish – Ethiopian and now London-based academic, broadcaster and writer, Emma Dabiri, presents an illustrated lecture titled From Ephemeral to Infinity: Hair in the African context.
It will be a great night for all the family, wander, look, listen, and discuss, and Highlanes Café Relish is also serving culturally rich supper, and are taking bookings on 041-9803311.
