Im­prove sig­nage

A call has been made for the coun­cil to im­prove the new sig­nage around Fran­cis Street and Scar­let Street fol­low­ing the changes to traf­fic flow in­tro­duced with the clo­sure of Lau­rence Gate.

Speak­ing at the Septem­ber meet­ing of Drogheda Mu­nic­i­pal District, Coun­cil­lor Frank God­frey said there had been traf­fic chaos in the ar­eas around Fran­cis Street, the Chord Road and Scar­let Street since the changes were in­tro­duced with peo­ple driv­ing the wrong way and a num­ber of near misses.

‘We need im­proved sig­nage in th­ese ar­eas to avoid any po­ten­tial ac­ci­dents in th­ese ar­eas, it is very dan­ger­ous,’ he said.

How­ever, a spokesper­son for the coun­cil said all the sig­nage put in place fol­low­ing changes to the road lay­out meets with statu­tory re­quire­ments. ‘We can’t put up sig­nage that’s big­ger than the re­quire­ments,’ she said.
