SYMPATHY is extended to the family and friends of Frank Brennan late of Pearse Park Drogheda who recently passed away.
Frank was the father of Regina Matthews Silverstream Close Stamullen. Following funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, Frank was laid to rest in St. Peter`s Cemetery Drogheda.
THE extension of the public footpath, from Gormanston College on the Stamullen Road to Gormanston Cross at the R132 Balbriggan to Drogheda Road, has been completed. This is a welcoming, yet long overdue, development of the local infrastructure of Stamullen.
A Local History and Genealogy (Family History) Course will get underway at the Drogheda Museum at the end of September.
The course will run for six-weeks and will take place every Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Focussing on Family-History and how to Research Local/Community History; the return of this popular course will be delivered by Historian & Archivist at the Drogheda Museum, Brendan Matthews and Genealogist Emmett Doran in association with the Old Drogheda Society and the Drogheda Museum at Millmount.
For more details and/or to book a place on the course, contact the Drogheda Museum at 0419833097.
THE floral display on the grounds of the Limekiln Gastro Public House in Julianstown Village is particularly striking and beautiful as you approach it from the Drogheda direction.
Well done to the management and staff in adding a great variety of colour and charm to the village. Hopefully something can soon be done on the vacant site opposite, formerly the Old Mill/El Molino Hotel which would alleviate this `long-festering eye-sore`; any enhancement to this derelict site would surely be an improvement!
KNOW YOUR PARISH
THE following letter was written by a Stamullen man and published by the Drogheda Independent newspaper back in April 1905. `I wish to inform the many readers of your journal that we have at present formed a branch of the Gaelic League in Stamullen, which I am glad to say, presents every feature of success.
I may also add that this branch was started by a few of our patriotic men whom I am confident are possessed of sufficient abilities to discharge the duties of a Gaelic League and to whom the people of Stamullen and its large surroundings should feel indebted, as it is the one and most necessary step that I would wish to see taking place in all the villages throughout Meath; The Irish Revival.
I remain, Dear Mr. Editor, yours faithfully, A Villager`.
