€20k funding for Drogheda groups
A host of local community groups will receive funding this year through the Community Facilities Scheme 2017.
This is a new Capital Grants Scheme for disadvantaged urban and rural areas.
Councillors at last Monday’s meeting of Drogheda Municipal District heard Louth had been allocated €64,000 and 180 applications had been received.
They heard in excess of €18,000 would be allocated in Drogheda and councillors were asked to give their approval to the allocations.
Some groups made multiple applications for different projects and in order to share the money fairly the largest award made was €1,000.
Eleven of the applications in Drogheda were deemed not to have been compatible with the scheme and were refused funding.
Projects that received funding included the Red Door Project, Drogheda Tidy Towns, Connect Family Resource, SOSAD, Drogheda Community Trust, Tredagh Lodge Daycare, Foroige CABLE Project, the Louth MS Society, Lourdes Community and Autism Support, all of whom received at least €1,000.
Others who received smaller awards included Drogheda Senior Citizens, Millmount Girl Guides, Culture Connect, LVC, Drogheda Local Voices and Assoc Bridge Club who between them received a total of €4,063.
