Run of the Coun­try raises €11,500 for Malta Ser­vices

SOME 40 ad­ven­tur­ous mo­tor­cy­cle rid­ers who donned their leathers and took to the open road for the Run of the Coun­try 2017 re­cently have raised an amaz­ing €11,551.50 for Malta Ser­vices Drogheda.

The Run of the Coun­try is a hugely pop­u­lar event, now in its sev­enth year and con­tin­ues to grow in suc­cess. This year’s event took place on Septem­ber 30th and proved to be no ex­cep­tion with a fan­tas­tic amount of sup­port for the 40 rid­ers on the day.

The 2017 event sur­passed all ex­pec­ta­tions and raised a whop­ping €11,500, an amaz­ing achieve­ment.

To date the Run has raised over €83,500 for lo­cal char­i­ties and this is the sec­ond year for Malta Ser­vices to ben­e­fit.

Af­ter a hearty cooked break­fast, the bik­ers were all rar­ing to get on the road. They were cheered on by Sup­port­ers at Malta Ser­vices, cruis­ing down Duke Street, as they un­der­took the first leg of their mys­tery tour.

The route this year took the mo­tor­cy­cle rid­ers through all the scenic back roads as far south as Gort and end­ing up in Long­ford, 405km of twisty roads through beau­ti­ful Ir­ish coun­try­side. The new M17 mo­tor­way was an op­tion some of the bik­ers took. A fun poker run for­mat was used, where play­ing cards were dis­trib­uted at check­points dur­ing the run with prizes for the win­ning hands.

Malta Ser­vices Drogheda, sup­port over 100 adults to live a life of their choos­ing by pro­vid­ing ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing, in­for­ma­tion and ad­vice and prac­ti­cal as­sis­tance to sup­port them to achieve their goals.

Funds raised from this event will go di­rectly to­wards as­sist­ing peo­ple to work to­wards and achieve spe­cific per­sonal goals. Claire Byrne, Ser­vice Di­rec­tor of Malta Ser­vices high­lighted some of the things that peo­ple spent their fundrais­ing monies on last year. ‘A num­ber of peo­ple used the funds to sup­ple­ment dif­fer­ent ed­u­ca­tional cour­ses, oth­ers on trips up to the Aviva, as well as other so­cial and sport­ing events. Once again, funds raised from this event will go di­rectly to­wards as­sist­ing peo­ple to work to­wards and achieve spe­cific per­sonal goals’, she said.

Michael McCormick the key or­gan­iser of the event said ‘What makes this re­ally spe­cial is the ex­cite­ment on the morn­ing at Malta Ser­vices, as the ser­vice users meet the bik­ers and have the craic.’
