Youth al­legedly had knife

A TEENAGER who was al­legedly armed with a knife to al­legedly seek re­venge on his sis­ter’s ex boyfriend has been granted bail at Drogheda District Court.

The teenager, who can­not be iden­ti­fied as he is un­der­age, was brought to the court last Fri­day, Jan­uary 26th where an out­line of the al­leged facts of the case were given for Judge John Cough­lan to con­sider grant­ing him bail.

Sergeant Ray Brady said it is al­leged gar­dai were called to Lau­rence Street on Au­gust 12th, 2017 at 9.30am where they met the teenager who al­legedly was in a highly ag­i­tated state.

A mem­ber of the pub­lic handed gar­dai a knife which they al­leged the teen was car­ry­ing.

‘It is al­leged the teenager wanted to get re­venge on his sis­ter’s ex boyfriend af­ter he was al­legedly as­saulted by him,’ said Sgt Brady.

The teen, who has no pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions, hasn’t come to garda at­ten­tion since, the court heard.

Judge John Cough­lan said it is a ‘po­ten­tially se­ri­ous case’ but granted the teen bail and ad­journed the case for two weeks for men­tion on Fe­bru­ary 9th.

The teen is charged with be­ing in pos­ses­sion of the knife un­der Sec­tion 9 of the Firearm Of­fences.
