SEAN O’MAHONYS ROCHE EMMETS 1-13 2-9

SEAN O’Mahonys recorded their first victory of the new season when they came out by a point against Roche Emmets on Saturday night.

This Group A game under lights in Roche proved to be a very well-contested affair but in the end it was the O’Mahonys who edged home with a late point from Conor Finnegan proving crucial.

Despite suffering their second defeat of the campaign, there were many positives for the Roche men on the night as they put in another good display and can consider themselves unfortunate not to have taken anything from the game.

There was little to choose between the teams throughout the first half with David O’Connell finding the net for the hosts, but a goal from Ben McLaughlin helped ensure the O’Mahonys went in at the break with a 1-7 to 1-6 advantage.

The second half saw the teams continue to trade scores but the Dundalk men always appeared to have the edge. A goal from Barry O’Hare kept Roche very much in the game but it was Finnegan who pointed late on to open the gap to two points and ensured his team held out despite Roche kicking the last score of the game.
