Duleek Players will have ‘Brush With a Body’ in new farce

-

Family secrets and a bungled attempt to hush up a murder make for hilarious comedy when the Duleek Drama Players hit the stage in Brush With A Body at the Droichead Arts Centre later this month.

What does a respectable family do when a blackmailing sweep finds a body up their chimney?

The answer makes for a brilliant piece of theatre from the Duleek Drama Players who are celebrating 30 years of entertaining local audiences this year.

‘It’s a tricky situation for the Walling household that’s for sure,’ said Director Michael Ferguson.

‘An eminent psychiatrist and his well-to-do clan can’t afford to have their family secrets being uncovered by the forces of law and order.

‘ Their efforts to evade the police and avoid being blackmailed by the wily chimney sweep make for a fast-paced farce that is laugh out loud funny.’

Brush With A Body by Maurice McLoughlin runs nightly from Tuesday, March 20 to Saturday, March 24, with tickets costing €15.

But the murder and mayhem that ensues is all in aid of some local good causes.

Among the charities who will benefit from the performances are the Drogheda Alzheimers Society on Tuesday night. Wednesday night’s show is in aid of the Niall Mellon Fund. Thursday’s will benefit the Duleek/Bellewstown Community Project, while Friday and Saturday night’s shows will aid the Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.

It has been a hectic few months for the local drama buffs who staged the very successful ‘Murder in the Spire’ at The Spire restaurant in Duleek during the run up to Christmas.

Director and playwright Michael Ferguson is also busy writing a brand new comedy ‘ The Blacksmith’ set in the Cooley Penninsula in 1949.

‘It has a large cast so we would love to hear from new members, particularly musicians who can play the fiddle, bodran, accordion and indeed spoons players would be especially welcome,’ said Michael.

‘In the meantime our audiences will enjoy a brilliant night’s entertainment at Brush with A Body while supporting worthwhile local charities.’
