Garda cones could be the answer to illegal parking

-

MAYBE the answer to illegal parking in key areas around Drogheda is to put down garda cones!

Cllr Pio Smith, commenting on issues at the Joint Policing meeting, said there were thousands of people at the blessing of the graves in St Peter’s, but no issue with parking.

Gardai placed cones all around the area and they were adhered to.

He quoted a problem at Anneville Crescent in the past when an ambulance couldn’t get into the estate due to cars being parked at the entrance.

He said the council issued tickets during the day but not ‘after hours’.

‘ The gardai put down cones for the blessing of the graves and people didn’t park,’ he remarked.

Supt Andrew Watters said that the gardai couldn’t police every instance of illegal parking but they had tackled Moneymore.

‘ There are no physical tickets and fines come in the post. Repeat offenders got tickets in Moneymore and the Twenties,’ he explained.

Parking in disabled spots had also been targeted and places were now free.
