ABCD headquarters will be the envy of every club in region

-

THE new Associated Bridge Clubs of Drogheda (ABCD) headquarters are fantastic.

I have kept an eye on the ongoing works at the Fair Green in recent months and the effort going into the project is enormous.

When it’s complete and that’s not far away, it will be the gem in the crown of all bridge clubs in the country.

And it shows what can be achieved when clubs come togther.

I’m sure it wasn’t easy back in 2011 when the ABCD was formed, a combination of seven different clubs.

The objective of all the clubs was to re-locate under the one roof to a building suitable for the needs of all the members.

At the Fair Green, they have a central location, with parking and it’s on one floor. I’d say it will be hard to keep the players from the likes of Donore, Dunleer, Star and Crescent, etc, out of the place.

Maybe some other sporting clubs will look at what has been achieved by the ABCD.

I often look at soccer clubs in particular and see so many - but a lot without a firm base.

Could clubs amalgamate, form a 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team and 4th team, as well as a youths section going from academy to under 18s and form the basis of a club built for the future.

Funding would come in for facilities via the FAI and government.

Anybody got a number for the president of the bridge clubs? I could pass it round to a few people!!!
