Volunteers are still needed for the 2018 Fleadh Cheoil

-

AS we move into July the countdown for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is really on. Volunteers are essential to make sure the festival is a success.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann’s Volunteer programme runs throughout the 8 day festival from 12th – 19th August 2018. The programme, which is coordinated by

Louth Volunteer Centre and backed by Coca- Cola International Services, invites applications from anyone interested in getting involved in the world’s largest celebration of Irish traditional music and culture.

Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the Fleadh, from greeting the 400,000 visitors expected to descend on the town and helping to keep the town litter-free, to helping out at competitions, concerts and on-street events. Hundreds of people from all over the world have already signed up to help out, almost 75% of whom are from County Louth. With over 1,000 volunteers required over the 8 days there’s always room for more!

Commenting on the Fleadh Volunteer Programme, Gráinne Berrill, Manager of Louth Volunteer Centre said “There is a fantastic spirit of volunteerism already in Drogheda. It is our aim that through the Fleadh Volunteer Programme, and with the backing of Coca- Cola International Services who are passionate about making a positive difference in our local communities, that the people of Drogheda will have the opportunity to contribute to take part in this world-class event and showcase all that this region and its people have to offer.

Becoming a Fleadh Volunteer offers participants an opportunity to build new friendships, develop new skills and play an integral role in the success of the biggest festival of Irish culture in the world. We have a number of training dates for volunteers coming up over the next few weeks so we are encouraging everyone to sign up for the volunteer programme as soon as possible.”

Applications are open to people aged 15 years and older – there is no upper limit! Volunteer shifts vary in length from 4 – 8 hours and all volunteers must attend one mandatory training session, which is scheduled for July and August, in advance of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. To register your interest in becoming a volunteer, visit http://fleadhcheoil.ie/volunteers/ , drop into the Louth Volunteer Centre office on Bolton Street or contact the Louth Volunteer Centre team at 041 9809008.
