Something for everyone in Classical Music series
THE glorious evening sunshine would have been the perfect accompaniment to the unveiling last Wednesday evening of the Drogheda Classical Music series for 2018/19, if it hadn’t been competing with beautiful cello music!
Drogheda is firmly becoming recognisable as a go-to place for high quality classical music and as with previous years, the series offers a mix of concerts exclusive to Drogheda and others that form part of national tours.
Artistic advisor of Drogheda Classical Music Pauline Ashwood was on hand to share the details of the series, in conjunction with Droichead Arts Centre, supported by Louth County Council and the Arts Council. Her announcement was followed by a short recital from renowned cellist Ailbhe McDonagh, giving a taste of things to come.
Opening on September 14th in St Peter’s Church of Ireland with the well-known clarinettist, Emma Johnson, celebrated Irish stars such as Dundalk mezzo-soprano, Tara Erraught and pianists Hugh Tinney and Barry Douglas will make return visits to Drogheda, while a performance by the piano, violin and cello ensemble Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch will mark their first visit to Ireland.
Irish National Opera will present a concert version of Gluck’s beautiful Orfeo ed Euridice with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and in a nod to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda again in 2019, violinists Lynda O’Connor and Mia Cooper, along with the Wolfgang Ensemble will perform Bill Whelan’s Inishlacken along with Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons.
Tickets will remain at an affordable €19 / €17 concession when booked in advance or €20 / €18 on the door, with a student / child ticket still at just €5. In addition to our buy all 7 concerts for the price of 5, we are introducing a pick your favourite 4 concerts for the price of 3.
