The salty snacks with the Clogher link!

-

THE seaside village of Clogherhead has been catapulted into the national spotlight...through ‘a fancy snack’!

Dunnes Stores ‘Simply Better’ range has added a new flavour to their posh crisps, that of handed cooked ‘Clogherhead Sea Salt and White Wine Vinegar’, and they’re flying off the shelves.

Owner of Oriel Marine Extracts & Oriel Sea Salt John Delaney is taking it all in his stride.

“Yes, it’s great to see the name on the shelves, and people seem to like them, and even I’m finding it hard to get my hands on a pack,” he told the Drogheda Independent.

“They came on the market around Christmas, and Drogheda shops were the first to stock them, but now I hear they’re all over the country, so Clogherhead is really on the map!”

He says he’s not quite sure when or where it all started, but he does recall speaking to the owners of Glen of Antrim pototoes, who were looking for something different to go with their spuds.

“They said they wanted something special, and our salt is unique in that it is free-flowing and not in flakes, plus it’s very low in sodium so better for you,” he explains.

“We’re members of the organic trust, so we’re glad someone thinks we belong in a fancy snack.”

The locally sourced crisps are now available in all Dunnes Stores supermarkets nationwide.
