Pipe bomb incident

-

A number of houses on the south side of Drogheda were evacuated in the early hours of Monday, after a pipe bomb was discovered in a residential area.

The army bomb disposal unit made safe the viable device, which was discovered at St Mary’s Cottages, Sunnyside, shortly before 3am.

No one was injured in the incident.

Gardai were alerted to the device, which was said to have been a pipe bomb, at around 2.45am, and they in turn requested assistance from the army.

The scene, which is close to a large secondary school, was declared clear of explosives at 4.20am.

Gardai at the Drogheda station are appealing to witnesses of anything suspicious in the area at that time to come forward.
