Highlanes events enthrall and captivate crowds
THERE were two memorable events recently at Highlanes which seemed to capture the deep engagement that our citizens are having with culture, and in particular its richness in this area.
A captivated audience experienced an epic lecture looking at the history of sculpture from ancient to modern, together with the electric and atmospheric collective sound of the four unaccompanied singers that were Landless on the first of two Dissenting Voices-evenings, which were programmed to coincide with Highlanes’ inspiring, provocative and reflective exhibition Crossing Lines.
The second evening was indeed just as enthralling with art historian Brenda Moore-McCann’s gallery talk ‘Brian O’Doherty: Art. Politics and the Role of the Dissenter’ followed by solo and duet performances of traditional Irish song from Noelle Bowe and Niall Wall who sang powerful songs of dissent, considering political, labour and agrarian activism. Watch Highlanes for more cross-artform action this spring.
