Intent on show of local talent
The Wexford Spiegeltent Festival is devoting a night to young Wexford talent with a concert featuring musicians, singers and songwriters on Saturday, October 16 at 8pm.
Despite the youthful age profile of the performers, the gig is confined to over 16’s and 16 and 17-year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Among the acts will be Luke Jackson who began rehearsals with a new session band and launched himself as JaXson in January of this year. He played his first shows in Whelans, The Workman’s Club and The Bowery and impressed music industry personnel along the way. He also won approval at the Waterford Harvest Festival where he was named as one to watch.
He will take to the stage at the Canalaphonic Festival in Dublin in late Sepember and is planning a big show for the Spiegeltent Festival. is the brainchild of Wexford singer-songwriter Luke Jackson.
Jaxson is releasing his anticipated debut single ‘All I’m Fighting For’ in October. It was recorded and mixed by the the producer Darragh Nolan at Asta Kalapa Studios in Gorey.
Niall Cash is a Wexford singer-songwriter currently studying songwriting at BIMM music college in Dublin. He was nominated as ‘Best Solo Male Act 2015’ in the Pure M Awards and has been playing venues such as the Button Factory, Whelans, The Workmans Club, the Ruby Sessions and the Bello Bar and he featured at this year’s Electric Picnic.
With a band behind him for his debut EP he developed his music into a folk/pop sound under the influences of James Bay, Ben Howard and The Coronas.
The EP called ‘Frames Have Cracked’ was released in May 2016 and peaked at number one in the Irish singer-songwriter charts on iTunes.
Five piece Wexford Indie rock band Fit For Kings will also be appearing at the Wexford Artists event in the Spiegeltgent.
Influenced by bands including 21 Pilots and The 1975, Fit For Kings have honed their sound with catchy melodies and energetic live performances. Since forming, they have been on numerous Irish radio playlists and received accolades such as 98FM’s Artist of the Week selection.
Also in the line-up will be Megan-Kate Doolan, a Wexford singer-songwriter and frequent busker on the Main Street.
No stranger to the stage, she has opened for acts including Mundy and Áine Cahill. She released her debut single ‘Falling’ early this summer, which was produced by Ryan O’Shaughnessy. Her four-track EP which was recorded at Orchard Recording Studio, is due for release this month.
The youngest act will be Rachel Grace, a 15-year old Wexford singer-songwriter who started performing at the age of 10.
She released her EP ‘Song For You’ in 2016 and is hoping to bring out a second album in the next year. She recently opened for artists including Wallis Bird and Don Mescall.
