THE Coláiste Bríde class of 1987 well and truly turned back the clock at The Rugby Club recently as they attended a special reunion to celebrate 30 years since they finished school and entered the big bad world. A total of 58 ladies from the class were in attendance on the night, some of whom travelled long distances to be there coming from Austria, Wales and all over Ireland.
While the group gathered together to celebrate 20 years previously, a lot of work was put in to make sure that it was a great evening as they marked 30 years. The committee comprised of Brídín Cody, Suzanne Walsh, Jean Kendrick, Chris McGrath and Sue Kavanagh, were delighted with the attendance and enthusiasm from their former classmates and there was great fun as everyone caught up in the rugby club on the night.
‘It was a great night,’ said Sue. ‘A lot of the group are local but you don’t necessarily bump into each other a whole lot, so it was lovely to get together and catch up. We had great fun. Liam Sharkey was the DJ and he had us up doing all kinds of stuff, like ‘Rock the Boat’. I can tell you, we’re not as agile as we used to be! Somewhere Over the Rainbow was also played, which we performed in our school play in second year. Liz Whelan was Dorothy and she sang surrounded by the rest of us. It was great fun and a lovely buzz from start to finish.’
It was only a matter of time before the old photos came out and in the end it was decided that the ladies were like fine wines and had improved with age. As well as having a great night, the ladies also did their bit for charity and a total of €510 raised from tickets will no go to The Hope Cancer Support Centre.
