En­nis­cor­thy man charged with theft changes his plea

A MAN charged with theft from Dunnes Stores in En­nis­cor­thy on Au­gust 8 of last year suf­fered a tem­po­rary mo­ment of con­fu­sion when he ap­peared be­fore Judge Gerard Haughton last week, en­ter­ing the wrong plea.

Paul Keane (45) of 4 Daphne View, En­nis­cor­thy was asked how he wished to plead and he replied guilty. Gar­daí be­gan to give the facts when Keane’s so­lic­i­tor Ni­amh Moriarty jumped up and said: ‘Apolo­gies Judge, my client meant to say not guilty.’

Ms Moriarty then made a Gary Doyle Or­der to be fur­nished with all the ev­i­dence against her client, in­clud­ing CCTV footage from the store, and the case was put back un­til Jan­uary 17 for hear­ing.
