It’s full steam ahead for TEDxWex­ford

PREPARATIONS are go­ing full steam ahead for TEDxWex­ford which takes place in the Na­tional Opera House on Fri­day, Novem­ber 24.

TEDxWex­ford is based on the con­cept of shar­ing ideas and look­ing at how sci­ence, pol­i­tics, me­dia, com­merce, sports, ed­u­ca­tion, agri­cul­ture and the arts will re­spond to to­day’s chal­lenge.

Dur­ing TEDxWex­ford the au­di­ence will en­joy TEDtalks and videos and live speak­ers who will spark deep dis­cus­sions and con­nec­tions in small groups.

Speak­ers at the event in­clude: Ir­ish peace ac­tivist Caoimhe But­tlery; broad­caster Dil Wick­re­mas­inghe; Peter Sheeky; Roie Galitz; Colm Mac Con Io­maire; Yusuf Omar; Dr Em­manuel G. Rey­naud and Linda Sheri­dan.

Caoimhe as worked for five years with so­cial jus­tice, ac­ces­si­ble pri­mary health-care and hu­man rights projects with women com­mu­nity or­gan­is­ers, indige­nous and refugee com­mu­ni­ties in Latin Amer­ica and the Mid­dle East. She has spent the past years in­volved in refugee, un­doc­u­mented and mi­grant sup­port ini­tia­tives in Ire­land, Greece, Le­banon and Calais.

So­cial jus­tice and men­tal health broad­caster Dil has one vi­sion and that is to cre­ate an in­clu­sive and equal Ire­land where all res­i­dents can live a fuller and more au­then­tic life.

Peter who works with the In­ter­cul­tural Sto­ry­telling Project (ISP) is a re­searcher and prac­ti­tioner in the field of sec­ond lan­guage learn­ing for refugees and mi­grants in Ire­land. .

In his talk renowned wildlife pho­tog­ra­pher and Green­peace Mediter­ranean am­bas­sador Roie will share en­dan­gered an­i­mals’ sto­ries as seen through his lens.

Colm is an Ir­ish mu­si­cian from Black­rock in Dublin. He plays vi­o­lin and sings vo­cals with rock group The Frames. Mac Con Io­maire has been in­volved with The Frames since 1990 and has been a tour­ing mem­ber of The Swell Sea­son since 2006.

Yusuf who is the co-founder of Hash­tag Our Sto­ries, is the for­mer CNN Se­nior So­cial Me­dia Re­porter on Snapchat and for­mer Mo­bile Ed­i­tor at the Hin­dus­tan Times in In­dia where he em­pow­ered 750 jour­nal­ists to tell sto­ries with their phones. He has been a for­eign cor­re­spon­dent with just his phone since 2010 and cov­ered the Syr­ian civil war. At Hash­tag Our Sto­ries, he’s em­pow­er­ing mo­bile video sto­ry­telling com­mu­ni­ties around the world, creat­ing shows in ev­ery lan­guage.

Dr Em­manuel is keen bi­ol­o­gist and a 3D imag­ing ex­pert. His in­ter­est ranges from imag­ing en­tire coral reefs us­ing sim­ple kites and mo­bile phones to ad­vanced 3D mi­croscopy tech­niques. He de­signed and co­or­di­nated a unique imag­ing suite on the Schooner Tara for a cir­cum­nav­i­ga­tion of the Earth and edited a book on ‘Imag­ing Marine Life’

Linda is mind­ful med­i­ta­tion coach that has spent her en­tire work­ing life in the cor­po­rate pri­vate sec­tor. Linda is a phi­lan­thropist with a keen fo­cus on hu­man­ity and so­cial re­spon­si­bil­ity, more re­cently a poet and spo­ken word artist. She is a char­ity event co­or­di­na­tor, a com­mit­tee mem­ber re­spon­si­ble for the run­ning of Wex­ford’s Able Dis­able club and a fam­ily sup­port guide with Ch­er­nobyl Aid Ire­land.
