Remedy Club enjoying songwriting success

-

Two songs written by the Wexford-based American/Roots duo The Remedy Club have been selected for the semi-finals of the 2017 International Songwriting Competition.

The renowned competition which received more than 16,000 entries is judged by musical heavyweights such as Tom Waits, Tony Joe White and the Mavericks. Previous winners have included Gregory Porter, Bastille and Wexford’s own Gordon Barry who won last year with his song ‘ The Deveil & St. Jesus’.

The Remedy Club comprising Aileen Mythen and Kc McEvoy, are gearing up for some exciting gigs in Ireland and a UK tour in April/May.

They will play the Belfast Nashville Songwriting on March 9 and are booked as one of the headline acts on March 18 in the Kilkenny Trad Festival where they will take to the stage in Cleere’e Theatre with Cork pedal steel player David Murphy.

They are just back from showcasing in London as part of the Americana Festival UK and were the only Irish act chosen to perform at the event.

Their new album Lovers, ‘Legends and Lost Causes’ has been receiving rave reviews in Ireland, the UK and further afield.

American magazine ‘No Depression’ has described the album as ‘outstanding’ while the Irish Times called it ‘an impressive mature collection’ and said ‘Mythen’s high lonesome vocals tell her sorry tales with a self-possession many artists never nail’.

The album was produced by The Remedy Club at Astakalapa Studios in Gorey and mixed in Nashville by five-time Grammy award-winner Ray Kennedy(Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson) and Mark Petaccia (Jason Isbell, Lindi Ortega). It features some of Ireland’s finest musicians including Wexford’s Basciville and Kj’s sister Eleanor McEvoy on strings.
