DRAMA FESTIVAL
The Kilmuckridge Drama Festival under the auspices of the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland has been running since 1958 and celebrates 60 years in existence this year.
The festival opened Friday, February 23, for nine nights. This year’s’ line up offered top class drama from some of the country’s leading drama groups. This year’s festival was opened by local novelist Sheila Forsey (née Devereux) who is the famous author of ‘Mending Lace’. Sheila received many awards during her time as an actress and won the Best Actress Award at all-Ireland Confined Drama Festival in 2015. Sheila recalled her happy childhood memories where she attended the annual Drama Festival and later on as a member of the local Kilmuckridge Drama group.
The festival welcomed back Adjudicator, Patrick Sutton, who was also the adjudicator in the 2015 Drama Festival. Patrick is currently director of the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar and founder member and director of the Smock Alley Theatre Dublin.
This year is a very special year for Kilmuckridge Drama Festival as they will host the all-Ireland One Act finals in December.
