Red-letter day for Mick as he retires from An Post duties

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

IT truly was the end of an era for Caim resident Mick Condren at the IFA Centre recently as he marked his retirement from An Post after a grand total of 44 years.

A native of Bray, Mick started out working for An Post in February of 1974. He started out in the capital before getting a move back to his hometown of Bray. After this a move to Kildare was on the cards as he took up a role in Naas and following some re-structuring within the organisation, he finally took up a role as Operations Manager in Enniscorthy. He made the move to Caim with his family where he has now become a part of the local community. His job saw him cover most of Leinster and parts of Dublin and he says that while he looks forward to embracing his retirement, he will miss it.

‘I’ll definitely miss it,’ he said. ‘Honestly, I loved every minute, loved the job. There’s a great group here in Enniscorthy.’

As for the future, big plans are already afoot for Mick to visit relatives out in Canada and he’s going to do anything but put the feet up.

‘I hope to do a little bit of travelling now and I’m also going to look to see is there any kind of charity I can lend a hand to locally. Apart from that I suppose a little bit of golf and gardening will keep me busy!’

People came from all four corners of the country to wish Mick all the best at his retirement party in the IFA Centre and he was also joined by his family for what was a proud day. Director of Operations at An Post John Brady made a presentation to him and wished him a happy retirement, while his colleagues have said he will be sorely missed.
