FUN PACKED DAY DAY OUT

ONE of the best family days out this summer, the 71st annual Agricultur­al Horticultu­ral, Trade and Vintage Show takes place in Adamstown on Saturday, July 7.

A fantastic, action-packed day, the show’s organising committee are leaving no stone unturned to have this year’s event the best ever.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on the village for the show which will kick off at 10 a.m. when judging will begin in the different classes. Arts and crafts will also feature in the event./

The show, taking place on lands kindly donated by the Cullen, Whelan and Redmond families, will feature all the usual horse, pony and sheep classes, as well as show-jumping and an inter-hunter chase.

There are also numerous horticultu­re, home-cooking, home industries, arts and crafts classes and a plethora of competitio­ns of all interests for children to enter.

There will be a ‘Most Appropriat­ely Dressed Lady’ competitio­n and the prize is sponsored by Lulu Boutique, New Ross, with a prize value of €150 in vouchers

There are perpetual cups and trophies to be won for the best exhibitors in all classes.

The standard of entries is always high in all classes and as always at Adamstown Show there will be a very keen interest in the winner of various classes in all the different sections of the show.

Another very attractive class for the Adamstown Show this year is the All Ireland Tattersall­s Red Mills Thoroughbr­ed Brood Mare Championsh­ip, with another €1,500 in prize money from first to 10th and nomination­s to Stallions.

Entries for the dog show as well horse and pony jumping take place on the field.

JUMPING

Always a major attraction at the Adamstown Show is the horse and pony jumping competitio­ns. The welcome addition of a fourth jumping arena has helped greatly in the efficient running of the show jumping events.

The Jumping in the Village has a prize fund of €6,000. Events in this include the 1.35m M&T Plant Hire Mervue Grand Prix along with the Nitrofert 1.20m competitio­n and the Cooney Furlong 1.10m competitio­n, along with a cup and sash and the 148cms 1.10m Slaney Foods Search for a Star, which has a prize fund of €500 and the Shannon Stone Trophy.

Finally the T&A Byrne Agri Contractor­s for young riders 1m had a prize fund of €300 coupled with crystal and a rug.

All other show jumping competitio­ns catered for.

There will also be a Horse Sport Ireland Young Handlers qualifier for Junior and Senior sections with a prize fund over €3,000. Contact Patrice Byrne on 087 616 6926.

HUNT CHASE

Organised by the Wexford Hunt Club, the Inter Hunt Chase is always a most exciting event and again this year the winning team will qualify for the R.D.S in August.

VINTAGE

Vintage enthusiast­s will be in their element with the large entry of vintage tractors and machinery, which will be on display at the show. The eagerly awaited parade and presentati­on

to vintage exhibitors will take place in the afternoon.

DOG SHOW

Perfect pooches, preened to perfection can be seen at the keenly con tested dog show.

This event has grown in popularity in recent years with more and more exhibitors competing

in different classes, with all winners vying for the coveted ‘Dog of the Show’ Trophy.

SHEEP

With the sheep industry improving, the sheep classes at the Adamstown Show are well supported this year. There will be upwards of twenty sheep classes on the day.

TRADE STANDS

A firm favourite at the Adamstown Show are the numerous trade stands. This very popular section has grown immensely over the past number of years and last year there was over fifty trade stands with everything on offer.

The Adamstown Show hosts numerous other attraction­s such as children’s amusements, an animal pets corner, traditiona­l butter making, dancers and lots more. Parking facilities at the Adamstown Show are always second to none with lots of car parking space available adjacent to all the atmosphere and action.

The hard working officers and committee of the Adamstown Show have put in a huge

There is something for every member of the family, young and not so young to relax and enjoy and meet old and new friends.
