Horseshoes round-up
THE COUNTY Wexford singles were held in Ferns on Tuesday.
The Division 1 semi-finals saw Michael Redmond (Woodsmen) beat John Doyle (Doran’s Bridge) 21-13, and Brendan Earle (Vinegar Hill) beat Johnjoe Byrne (Doran’s Bridge) 21-15.
The final saw Earle come out on top against Redmond on a score of 21-13.
The Division 1 doubles were held on Thursday. The semi-finals saw Noel Redmond and Brendan Earle (Vinegar Hill) beat Walter Christopher and Gavin Collier (Doran’s Bridge) 21-11, while Harry Kinch and John Doyle (Doran’s Bridge) beat Phil Mahon and Paddy Connors (Woodsmen) 21-20.
In the final, Earle and Redmond beat Kinch and Doyle 21-11. Earle and Redmond were in top form all evening, throwing outstanding horseshoes.
The Leinster open and Michael Furlong shield Division 1 and 2 were held in Páirc Mhuire, Ferns, on Saturday.
The Division 1 final saw the Woodsmen versus Doran’s Bridge. Paddy Connors and Phil Mahon (Woodsmen) beat Harry Kinch and John Doyle 21-14, while Richard Collier and Johnjoe Byrne (Doran’s Bridge) beat Johnny Giltrap and Tom Connors 21-16.
Michael Redmond and Chris McDonald (Woodsmen) beat Gavin Collier and Michael Sunderland 21-14, leaving the Woodsmen the winners 2-1.
As there was only one second division team, Doran’s Bridge, they played the winners of the first division, Woodsmen.
Johnny Giltrap and Tom Connors (Woodsmen) beat Denny Larkin Snr. and Charles Christopher Jnr. 21-12, while Phil Mahon and Paddy Connors (Woodsmen) beat Dean Collier and John Kehoe 21-14.
The other members of the Doran’s Bridge team were Billy McGuire and Jason Collier. Congratulations to the Woodsmen who were the overall champions on the night.
The county championship will take place next Tuesday in Ferns in the league field, Divisions 1 and 2, with a 7 p.m. start.
The All-Ireland singles Divisions 1 and 2 and the All-Ireland ringers Divisions 1 and 2 are being held in Bunclody in the Woodsmen’s ground on the Carnew Road, starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 8.
The second round of the Wexford league continues on Wednesday, July 11.
