Council congratulates Tidy Towns winners
THE achievements of Enniscorthy’s hard-working Tidy Towns committee were acknowledged at The Presentation Centre as they displayed their Royal Institute of Architects Ireland (RIAI) special award.
Enniscorthy scooped the RIAI prize, along with making it three bronze medals in a row in the competition and it was collected by Tidy Towns secretary Sean Doyle at the ceremony in The Helix in Dublin recently. A new award for this year, the RIAI prize was to be awarded to a community which demonstrates that they are working to implement positive change in their local area. Having won the category, Enniscorthy will now secure the services of an architect to work with the community and develop a plan for the heart of the town.
Municipal District Chairman Cllr Willie Kavanagh and County Council Chairman Cllr Keith Doyle were both present at the ceremony in Dublin and both once again offered their congratulations at the presentation in the municipal district chambers.
This year the Enniscorthy committee embraced technology with an updated Facebook page and work with Curio on educating schools using technology software developed by a local company with Paul Hickey, based at Enniscorthy Enterprise Centre.
Huge congratulations were also expressed to Monageer Tidy Towns who scooped the Sustainable Development Award for their wonderful grotto with sensory garden and woodland walk. The members congratulated both committees on their success and said that they were wonderful representatives for the district. Enniscorthy Tidy Towns will host its own local awards night tonight (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. in the IFA Centre.
