Bags of style

PAURIC SWEENEY Donegal-born Pauric Sweeney creates arm candy labels preferred by cool hunters than certain celebrities. He studied architecture rather than fashion. Since spending time in Italy Sweeney has specialised in bags for men and women. His designs (one of which is pictured top right, price € 1,390) were a big hit with Harvey Nichols buyers. ANYA HINDMARCH Anya Hindmarch’s This Is not a Plastic Bag (pictured, right) was designed to reduce the number of plastic bags used in the UK. While the shopper retails at the pocket-friendly price of ¤12, stocks are limited, so guess what, waiting lists are expected for this bag the minute it arrives into Brown Thomas in early July. MAN BAGS Men are increasingly willing to carry the male version of a handbag – the “manbag” (a Dunhill manbag is pictured right, ¤550, Brown Thomas). Paul O’Connor, menswear buying director at Brown Thomas, says: “Our most successful style is by Prada and is more briefcase-esque. It's also big and brawny enough to support a laptop and documents.”
