Man caught for the 10th time with drugs

Fingal Independent - - NEWS -

A MAN who was caught for the tenth time with drugs may avoid a prison sentence if he is deemed suitable for community service work.

Sean Hanratty (32), who has a total of 59 previous convictions, including nine for drugs, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of € 20 worth of cannabis resin at his home address at Abbeylea Close in Swords.

Garda David Smith said he searched the house at 9.30pm on August 15th last year. He said he located the cannabis resin and the defendant, who was present, took ownership of it.

Defence solicitor Fiona D’Arcy said the 32-year- old, who has two children, had a ‘slip-up’ following the breakup of a relationship.

‘He hasn’t smoked cannabis since and doesn’t want to go back to his former life,’ said Ms D’Arcy, adding the defendant is willing to do community service work.

Gda Smith confirmed the defendant hasn’t come to garda attention since.

Judge John King ordered a community service report to see if the defendant is suitable to complete 100 hours in lieu of two months in prison and adjourned the case until June 19.
