Young man fined €300 for pos­ses­sion of cannabis

A YOUNG man who was caught with cannabis has been con­victed and fined €300.

Patrick Sheehy (25) was in a car which was parked up in a car park at Delvin Bridge in Bal­brig­gan.

When gardai ap­proached the car they got a smell of cannabis and upon search­ing the de­fen­dant they lo­cated €10 worth of cannabis.

The de­fen­dant, of Martello Mews in Bal­brig­gan ad­mit­ted it was for his own per­sonal use. He pleaded guilty be­fore Bal­brig­gan Dis­trict Court to be­ing in un­law­ful pos­ses­sion of the cannabis on Septem­ber 8th, 2016. He has no pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions.

De­fence so­lic­i­tor Fiona D’Arcy said the de­fen­dant isn’t in a po­si­tion to deal with it by way of a char­i­ta­ble do­na­tion leav­ing Judge Dempsey with no op­tion but to im­pose the fine and con­vic­tion.
