Urgent care centre to benefit Fingal
NEW FACILITY AT CONNOLLY HOSPITAL IS DUE TO OPEN IN 2018
THE Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Connolly Hospital will improve geographic access to urgent care for children in the Fingal Dublin area, according to a local senator and GP
The new facility was proposed by Senator Reilly during his tenure as Minister for Health in November 2012.
The new 5,000 sq metre centre will cater for 25,000 Urgent Care attendances per annum.
‘The new Children’s Urgent Care Centre at Connolly Hospital is only 30 mins or less from Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, Lusk and 20 minutes from Swords and there is ample parking on site,’ said Dr Reilly.
‘This new state of the art facility serving the children of Fingal is due to open in 2018.
‘The Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Connolly Hospital will provide consultant-led urgent care, with observation beds, diagnostics and secondary outpatient services including rapid access general paediatric clinics, developmental paediatrics and multidisciplinary care for children with chronic stable conditions,’ he said
‘The three-storey unit will include a walk-in Children’s Urgent Care Centre, paediatric out-patient department and children’s dentistry. Connolly Hospital was selected as an Urgent Care Centre/ Ambulatory Centre as part of the plan for the National Children’s Hospital.
‘Typically, the centre will care for children and young people who have a common, minor illness or injury which cannot be managed by a GP (primary care) but does not require the acute services of an Emergency Department.;‘connolly Children’s Out Patient and Urgent Care centre will provide Consultant-led urgent care, with 4-6 hour observation beds, appropriate diagnostics and secondary outpatient services including rapid access general paediatric clinics as well as child sexual abuse unit examination, observation and therapy rooms will be provided in the Outpatient and Urgent Care Centres.
‘I welcome the publication today by Health Minister Simon Harris of the Children’s Health Bill 2017,’ said Senator Reilly.
‘The Bill which provides the statutory entity to run the new €1 billion National Children’s Hospital is a significant step in the provision of children’s health care.
‘The Children’s Urgent Care Centre approved for funding by Government will be a great addition to children’s services in Fingal,’ said Dr Reilly a local GP from Lusk in North County Dublin.
