Evening of reminiscing and nostalgia for Balrothery class of ‘77
IT WAS an evening of nostalgia and reminiscing for many of the former pupils of the Class of 1977 of Balrothery National School as they got together to celebrate their 40th anniversary reunion.
Organised by William Brady, the event took place at the school where the 46 former pupils gathered together for the first time since they graduated from their primary school. They took a tour of the building, which has changed a lot in the 40 years since they departed, with new buildings and classrooms.
But, this did not take away from the reminiscing of days past.
‘There are a few new buildings at the school now and the playground at the side of the school where we used to play is gone but it was still a great evening,’ said William.
He said he didn’t recognise many of his former pupils, a lot whom haven’t seen each other since 1977.
‘Some travelled from overseas to be at the reunion and and some travelled from Tyrone, Enfield and Carlow,’ he said.
They also remembered former classmates William Lacey, Orla Fanning, Louis Marry and Christopher Thompson who have passed away.
The reunion then moved to the Balrothery Inn where they were greeted with a champagne reception and a three course meal. The catching up and reminiscing continued until the wee hours of the morning.
‘We had a fantastic catch up and there’s talk of organising another one for next year,’ he said, thanking all those who turned up and the Balrothery Inn for the marvellous spread and hospitality.
