Tenant (44) caused damage to house

Fingal Independent - - NEWS -

A TENANT who ‘went overboard’ after he fell out with his landlord caused €1,500 worth of damage after he smashed up the front door of the house he was renting in Balbriggan.

Nice Usoro (44) had gone to collect his belongings after he was evicted from the premises and panicked as he had valuable items that his family had given him in the house, Swords District Court heard.

Garda Kevin Fitzpatrick gave evidence Usoro had an argument with his landlord and smashed in the glass front door.

The door came off it’s hinges, the court heard.

Usoro, of Cherry Garth, Brecan Close, Balbriggan pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a house at Castleland Court on March 15.

The court heard the father- of-five is currently homeless and in a difficult position as he is not able to come up with €1,500 to pay for the damage at the moment.

But defence barrister Bernard Stobie said the defendant has €200 with him and if he is given more time he can come up with the rest of the money as he now has a part time job in security. ‘He had gone back to collect his items, some of which were valuable,’ said Mr Stobie. ‘There was an element of panic but he knows he went way overboard.’

Judge Dermot Dempsey said he will give the defendant one chance to come up with the balance of the money and adjourned the case to November 22. He warned the defendant ‘If you don’t have €1,300 by then you are facing jail.’
