Gate Lodge nearly done Sup­port for Tidy Towns Paddy’s Hill car park­ing

THE re­fur­bish­ment of a Gate Lodge at Malahide Demesne near Mcallister’s Junc­tion will be com­pleted by the end of the year, ac­cord­ing to the coun­cil.

An­swer­ing a ques­tion on the is­sue from Cllr Eoghan O’brien (FF) the coun­cil re­vealed the time­line for the project that will con­vert the old Gate Lodge into an artists’ stu­dio for a new artist in res­i­dence pro­gramme at Malahide Demesne. The re­fur­bish­ment be­gan in April and is due to be com­pleted ‘ to­ward the end of 2017’, ac­cord­ing to the coun­cil. THE coun­cil has pledged con­tin­ued sup­port to Malahide Tidy Towns ef­forts in the na­tional com­pe­ti­tion.

On be­half of the lo­cal Tidy Towns, Cllr Eoghan O’brien (FF) pre­sented a list of is­sues that Tidy Towns wanted to work with the coun­cil to ad­dress in the next year. He sug­gested a ded­i­cated per­son within the coun­cil to deal li­aise with the Tidy Towns com­mit­tee on the is­sue but the coun­cil said that that Tidy Towns al­ready en­gaged with coun­cil staff and ‘ev­ery ef­fort is made to as­sist them in all their ac­tiv­i­ties’. PLANS are be­ing made to ex­tend park­ing at Paddy’s Hill car park in Port­marnock.

Re­spond­ing to a re­quest from Cllr Brian Mcdon­agh (Lab) to im­prove the avail­abil­ity of park­ing there, the coun­cil said it is al­ready mak­ing ar­range­ments to ‘ leave the car park at Paddy’s Hill open on a per­ma­nent ba­sis’. It said the work to al­low this to hap­pen would take place ‘in the next few weeks’. In ad­di­tion, the lo­cal au­thor­ity said that ex­tend­ing the car park would be ‘in­cluded for con­sid­er­a­tions in the 2018 Works Pro­gramme’.
