Swords treat­ment plant’s fail­ure re­paired

IR­ISH Wa­ter says the me­chan­i­cal fail­ure that led to the re­cent es­cape of un­pleas­ant odours from the Swords Waste Wa­ter Treat­ment Plant, has been fixed.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from Ir­ish Wa­ter: ‘The me­chan­i­cal equip­ment at Swords Waste Wa­ter Treat­ment Plant has been re­paired and re­turned to full op­er­a­tion.

‘Ir­ish Wa­ter are con­tin­u­ing to mon­i­tor its per­for­mance.’

The util­ity has warned that the odour prob­lem could per­sist for about a week un­til the re­pair takes hold. The com­pany ex­plained: ‘It will take up to seven days for the plant to be re­stored to its nor­mal op­er­at­ing con­di­tions and dur­ing this time, the odours will per­sist but re­duce. Ir­ish Wa­ter wish to apol­o­gise to the com­mu­nity im­pacted by the bad odours and any in­con­ve­nience that this might cause.
