Garda foot patrols in Gorey are welcomed

Gorey Guardian - - NEWS -

FOCUSED garda foot patrols and inspections were carried out last week in less visible areas of Gorey town in an attempt to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

The measure was welcomed by Cllr Malcolm Byrne who said it showed a commitment to deal with anti-social behaviour, especially in lane ways and other less visible areas around the town.

‘We have some problems in some lane ways and at the backs of buildings where littering occurs and sometimes used needles are left,’ he said. ‘There is also evidence of intimidation of some passers by.’

‘The gardaí are committed to tackling this and the targeted foot patrols and inspections will help,’ he said.

Malcolm urged residents to report problem areas to the gardaí. ‘It may seem small, but by building up the evidence, the gardaí can look at patterns of where problems are or may arise,’ he said.

He commented that Gorey is a clean and friendly town and said ‘we intend to keep it that way.’
