Woods­men Club crowned All-Ire­land horse­shoe champs

CEL­E­BRA­TIONS were had among the mem­bers from The Woods­men Club, Bun­clody who won both the All-Ire­land Club Di­vi­sion 1 and the All-Ire­land County Di­vi­sion 1 in horse­shoe pitch­ing.

It was the eighth time for the Woods­men mem­bers to win the All-Ire­land Club Di­vi­sion af­ter they beat Dow­ley Duff from Kil­dare, who were the cur­rent champions, in the final.

The com­pe­ti­tion took place in Athy, Kil­dare where a to­tal of three games were played be­tween the two clubs.

‘The Woods­men lost the first game at 21 – 18, but they came back and won the sec­ond game, 21 – 14,’ said PRO John Joe Byrne.

To be crowned champions, the Bun­clody club needed 18 marks in the final game, which they man­aged by beat­ing Dow­ley Duff with 21 – 8.

Mean­while, mem­bers from the club also com­peted in the All-Ire­land County Di­vi­sion 1 rep­re­sent­ing Wex­ford, where they beat Done­gal 4 – 1 af­ter a to­tal of five games.

‘Liam Bond who is our man­ager also won the All-Ire­land dou­bles with Tadgh Con­nelly and Michael Red­mond won the All-Ire­land sin­gles,’ said John Joe.

The Woods­men Club con­sists of Paddy Con­nors, Philip Ma­hon, Tom Con­nors, John Gil­trap, Michael Red­mond, Chris McDon­ald, and sub and man­ager Liam Bond.
