Cour­town man ad­mits to bur­glary and dam­age of ma­chines at Pi­rate’s Cove

Louis Cordiner (22) with an ad­dress at 19 An Ban, Cour­town was be­fore Gorey Court to ad­mit two burglaries at Pi­rate’s Cove in Cour­town.

The in­ci­dents at the well-known amuse­ment cen­tre oc­curred within a few hours of each other on the night of June 4 and 5 in 2015.

The burglaries net­ted €106 in coins but cost the own­ers of the premises €6,000 to re­pair dam­aged gam­ing ma­chines.

De­fend­ing solic­i­tor John O’Donovan told the court that the mother of the de­fen­dant said her son had ADHD and autism, which af­fected his abil­ity to read and write.

Cordiner was de­scribed as English born with two Ir­ish chil­dren and Mr O’Donovan re­ported that his client was not in a po­si­tion to pay compensation.

How­ever, in re­leas­ing Cordiner on bail for com­pi­la­tion of a pro­ba­tion re­port, Judge Ger­ard Haughton made it clear that he ex­pected some money to be paid.

The mat­ter stands ad­journed to De­cem­ber 7.
