Failed drug dealer caught with cannabis worth €600

Gorey Guardian - - NEWS -

FAILED DRUG dealer John Farrell (57) of 14 Villa Mara, Riverchapel, Courtown appeared in the District Court after he was apprehended with more than €600 worth of cannabis.

Prosecuting Garda Darren Coleman seized resin valued at €456 and herb valued at €170 at Ballintra Lower in June.

Solicitor David Tarrant represented the accused man, explaining that, at the time of the offence, his client was under pressure to pay his rent.

Farrell had acted in desperation to raise finance but the solicitor noted that his client was not good at the drugs trade.

The defendant was described as father of seven adult children and not suitable for community service as he was in extreme bad health.

Such was Farrell’s condition, suggested Mr Tarrant, that he could not take the drugs himself, so they were not for his own use.

Judge Gerard Haughton recorded a six month jail term, which was suspended, and granted the gardaí an order for destruction of the cannabis.
