Cannabis worth €40,000 seized in Bal­ly­fad house

Cannabis herb worth an es­ti­mated €40,000 was seized dur­ing a raid of a house in Bal­ly­fad last week.

Gorey gar­dai, as­sisted by the de­tec­tive branch and the garda dog unit, searched the house on Fri­day evening at around 7.30 p.m. in what was de­scribed as ‘an in­tel­li­gence led op­er­a­tion.’

A man in his thir­ties was ar­rested dur­ing the op­er­a­tion and brought to Gorey Garda Sta­tion for ques­tion­ing.

He was later re­leased and a file is be­ing pre­pared for the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Prose­cu­tions.

This was the sec­ond drugs seizure last week. On Tues­day, up to €1,000 worth of cannabis was seized in a ve­hi­cle in Gorey. A man was ar­rested and later re­leased. A file is go­ing to the DPP.

In other garda news, around €1,000 worth of fire­works were seized in a search of a house in Cour­town last Thurs­day. A va­ri­ety of fire­works were found in the haul. Gar­daí re­mind the pub­lic that fire­works are dan­ger­ous, and they are also il­le­gal. They will be crack­ing down on sale or pos­ses­sion of fire­works in the com­ing weeks.
