From bread to ba­con, Wex­ford com­pa­nies ex­cel in food awards

STAFFORD Bak­eries from Gorey were the big Wex­ford win­ners tak­ing seven awards at Blas na hEire­ann in Din­gle at the week­end.

There were four Golds for their Seeded Chia & Car­rot Bread, Tra­di­tional Barm Brack, Hot Cross Buns and for the Hot Cross Buns they make for Dunnes Stores.

The bak­ery also won Sil­vers for their White Sliced Pan and Christ­mas Pud­ding and Bronze for their Tra­di­tional Vi­enna.

Other Wex­ford win­ners in­cluded Gold for En­nis­cor­thy-based O’Neill’s Dry-Cured Ba­con Com­pany who won a Gold for their Dry Cured Back Rash­ers . Ir­ish Coun­try Meats from Camolin won three awards ; Gold for their Mer­guez Lamb Sausage, Sil­ver for Mediter­ranean Sausages and Bronze for Inis­vale Rack of Lamb 650g (En­tered on be­half of the pro­ducer by Lidl), Green Val­ley Farms’ Kil­lowen Farm’s Dunnes Stores Basil Pesto Ir­ish Cream Cheese won Sil­ver and there was a Bronze for the En­nis­cor­thy com­pany’s Kil­lowen Farm Blue­berry Yogurt

Zanna Cook­house took four awards in­clud­ing Golds for Dunnes Sim­ply Bet­ter Ir­ish Free Range Chicken Liver Pate, Goats Cheese, Spinach & Sunkissed Tomato Quiche and As­para­gus & Wex­ford Ched­dar Quiche and Sil­ver for Dunnes Sim­ply Bet­ter Ir­ish Ham & Ma­ture Ched­dar Cheese Quiche

There were also Sil­ver awards for Scup Ge­lato’s Wex­ford Straw­berry Ge­lato, Pet­titt’s Su­pervalu Wex­fords’ Pet­titt’s Nat­u­ral Sour­dough in Wex­ford, Wild About’s Rhubarb Syrup, in Gorey, Wex­ford Home Pre­serves’ for Dunnes Sim­ply Bet­ter Hand­made Pas­sion Fruit & Mango Coulis and Nat­u­rally Cor­dial Ltd’s for Dunnes Sim­ply Bet­ter Ir­ish Wex­ford Black­cur­rant Cor­dial. Two Bronze Awards went to Fancy Fungi for their Wild Mush­room Pate and Wex­ford Home Pre­serves’ Sim­ply Bet­ter Hand­made Seville Orange Mar­malade.

The Supreme Cham­pion was Glen­stal Ir­ish Cream­ery Salted But­ter from Lim­er­ick. The awards are the largest blind-tasted food and drink awards on the is­land of Ire­land.
