Miracle as drivers walk away from horror smash
ACCIDENT AT OULART INVOLVED TRUCK AND CARS
THE drivers of three vehicles were lucky to escape relatively uninjured after a horror crash at Kyle, Oulart on Tuesday evening last. While that stretch of road is no stranger to accidents, this one involving a truck and two cars was particularly bad and miraculously all drivers were able to walk away with just minor cuts and bruises.
The incident took place at around 7.30 p.m. and it is believed that one of the cars pulled onto the main road and was hit by a truck, which subsequently smashed into a vehicle on the opposite side of the road before ending up down in a gripe at the side of the road with its cab off.
The truck, which was hauling hay bales at the time, was left smashed up beyond recognition but luckily the driver, from the Ballycanew area, was left relatively uninjured. Similarly the drivers of both cars, from Gorey and Kiltealy, were left shaken but not badly hurt. All three were taken by Ambulance to Wexford General Hospital as a precaution, but were discharged later that night.
Enniscorthy Gardaí and Fire Service were quick on the scene along with the ambulance and the road was sealed off for a number of hours while the significant amount of debris and diesel was cleared from the scene. Wexford County Council were also called to grit the road as a result of freezing conditions which were setting in.
Gardaí carried out an examination at the scene and a full investigation into the incident is under way, however, a garda spokesman confirmed that nobody had been arrested and that alcohol was not considered to have been a factor.
