Lucky es­cape for man and child

A man and a child were lucky to es­cape un­harmed af­ter the SUV in which they were trav­el­ling ended up perched pre­car­i­ously on its side in the ditch at Bloom­field on the En­nis­cor­thy to New Ross road yes­ter­day morn­ing.

The in­ci­dent took place at around 9 a.m. and saw the vehicle come around a bend in the road to be con­fronted with a car that had come to a stop turn­ing. The driver, a man in his thir­ties, slammed on the brakes and was forced to take eva­sive ac­tion, re­sult­ing in the vehicle go­ing off the road and down into a dyke, end­ing up on its side.

Gar­daí were im­me­di­ately called to the scene and a garda spokesman said that while there was some mi­nor traf­fic disruption, no­body was hurt dur­ing the course of the in­ci­dent. They spoke to the driver at the side of the road and a trac­tor and a re­cov­ery truck were re­quired to re­move the vehicle which was wedged into the ditch.
