Gorey District Hospital receive €5,585 from O’Keefe family

Gorey Guardian - - NEWS -

The family of Jimmy ‘Digger’ O’Keefe who passed away in July from cancer have raised a generous amount of €5,585 for Gorey District Hospital.

A benefit night was held in his memory at Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford recently, where a room full of people enjoyed classic entertainment from Theresa and The Stars, Mary D’Arcy, Louise Jones and Cowboy Larry, who travelled from Tyrone to play for his number one fan – Digger.

‘My father loved Cowboy Larry’s music,’ said Fiona O’Keefe. ‘He sang his favourite song ‘Red River Rosie’ which we also played at his funeral service.’

The family decided the money they raised would go to a local organisation. Gorey Hospital will buy a much-needed hospital bed with the funds and place a plaque on it in Diggers memory.

‘They were very good to him leading up to the time of his death,’ said Fiona.

Fiona said the family would like to thank Wexford General Hospital and Gorey Hospital.
