Emma & The Beast From The East NICE DAY FOR A WHITE WEDDING!
The Beast from the East may have caused havoc across Wexford but it also made the perfect wedding backdrop for one couple.
Kim Hersee and Gavin Scully from Tallaght, Dublin, had a civil ceremony and reception in Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey on Friday, even though majority of the county was covered in a blanket of snow.
The celebrant was snowed in, so General Manager Eibhear Coyle officiated the ceremony. Mr Coyle has a license to do so, and he said he thoroughly enjoyed officiating and wishes the best and congratulations to the happy couple.
The newly weds started to panic on Wednesday when the weather took a turn for the worse in Dublin. They made a hastily decision to travel down on Thursday to the Amber Springs with the wedding party and guests.
‘We travelled in a large convoy and when we got to Bray there was not a snow flake to be seen,’ said Kim. ‘It was such a relief when we arrived to the hotel.’
Majority of the guests checked-in on Thursday night. Mr Coyle reassured Kim and Gavin that their wedding will go ahead on Friday no matter what.
Gavin said some of his guests travelled from Crumlin and Rathmines on Friday morning, when most of the south east was caught in the blizzard.
‘One of my bridesmaids dug her way out of her house on Friday morning,’ added Kim.
The civil ceremony went ahead at 3.30 p.m., a little later than what was planned.
‘Some of the guests got held up on Friday because of the weather,’ said Gavin. ‘They arrived at 3.10 p.m. in jeans and tracksuits but we did not care.’
The hairdresser for the wedding had travelled down on Thursday with Kim, and make up artist Eileen Cullen from Riverchapel checked in on Thursday night.
‘Tears just kept on flowing every time someone did something really nice for our wedding,’ said Kim.
Kim and Gavin both said they had a brilliant night in the Amber Springs Hotel and could not thank the staff enough for all their help, especially Eibhear.
‘The wedding was no different to what we had planned, except only a handful of guests could not make it,’ said Kim.
