€5.2m allocated for social housing units in Gorey
A social housing turnkey project in Gorey has been approved last week by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
Housing Officer from Wexford County Council Padraig O’Gorman said 22 units at Gleann an Ghairdin, Ballytegan Road will be constructed. The units are in an urban area where the council has the strongest demand for social housing.
Minster Michael D’Arcy welcomed the recent announcement and said the Department of Housing would be allocating funding of €5.2 million for the units in Gleann na Ghairdin.
Mr O’Gorman said he would have further information on the expected timeframe for delivery of the units at a later date.
Cathaoirleach of Gorey Municipal District Cllr Joe Sullivan welcomed the provision of the extra housing for Gorey. ‘It is a step in the right direction,’ said Cllr Sullivan. ‘But it is still not enough for the current situation.’
Local councillor Fionntán Ó Suilleabháin said ‘this is the type of development urgently needed’.
